The Mountain Goats nous émerveillent depuis 1991 avec leur folk rock mené par l’auteur-compositeur-interprète John Darnielle.

Leurs premiers enregistrements dans les années 90 sont produits via les réseaux de musique indépendante, essentiellement sur des supports cassettes et vinyls. Avec leur dernier album Transcendental Youth paru chez 4AD, the Mountain Goats se sont affirmés comme un groupe majeur de la scène folk rock indépendante, si bien que le New Yorker nomme John Darnielle comme l’un des meilleurs paroliers de notre époque.
